James Duffy has a thirty-year background in writing and television production.

 

Writing

Book 1 of Jim’s Gladiators of the Empire series, entitled Sand of the Arena, was released by McBooks Press in November, 2005. This action-packed adventure series, set in ancient Rome during the 1st century AD, follows the journeys of two gladiators and a venator (an arena animal hunter) as they travel the wide expanse of the Roman Empire. Jim is also a contributing writer for Moonstone Books, recently completing a western graphic novel series based on O Henry’s character, the Cisco Kid. His magazine articles have appeared in Modern Drummer, Government Video Magazine, Business Journal, Amazing Figure Modeler, and other national enthusiast and trade publications.

 

TV Production

Jim began his career as a news producer/writer in 1972 at the CBS affiliate in Miami, Florida. In 1979, he established his own production company, Venture Media, providing creative development, writing and production services for television documentaries, cable networks, government agencies, and interactive multimedia projects. He has written and produced documentaries for Discovery Networks, the National Park Service, Travel Channel, and the Armed Forces Network, among others. He has researched and written on a wide variety of historical topics including the Blue Angels, Hernando De Soto, Abraham Lincoln, The Beatles, and Robert E. Lee.

 

Awards

Among his numerous writing and production honors are an Emmy Award, sixteen Telly Awards, and twenty Addy Awards. His manuscript for Sand of the Arena was an award winner at both the Pike’s Peak Writers Competition and the New Century Writers Competition. Jim was named to the Top 100 Multimedia Producers list by AV/Multimedia Producer Magazine and is also listed in Who’s Who in Media & Communications.

He lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his family.
